Wassells House

About Us!

Wassells House was originally built in the 1930's as a working farmhouse. The working farm was located on the land near the house. The name Wassells was carried on from the previous owner.

The name itself originated from the Somerset term, 'lets go a wasselling'. This is an old tradition where cider farmers used to fire their guns through the bows of the apple trees to frighten off the evil spirits in order produce a successful harvest.

Recently the house has been remodelled and modernised without compromising any of the original features. The house has been extended to twice its original size and now sits on its own 3/4 acre garden.

The garden backs onto the old railway line where locally grown strawberries were once put on the 'Strawberry Special' train and to Bristol market. We have enjoyed sharing our home and will continue to improve the facilities and surroundings. The garden is splendid and has hundreds of different plants designed to have flowers year round. We have a wonderful koi carp pond with more than 30 fish of varying size. Separate to this is our nature pond with goldfish, frogs, dragonfly & all sorts of pond life. We additionally keep hens and our dog in the garden too!

Wassells is a comfortable, friendly home in the village of Cheddar with its splendid surroundings. Sunny Cheddar, with its famous Caves, Gorge & other attractions, is nestled in the foothills of the magnificent Mendips. This quiet village offers a variety of places to eat and drink, and are conveniently located within walking distance. If its refreshing tranquillity you are looking for, then we have plenty to offer you.

The area offers many attractions in great walking, cycling, fishing, golf, shooting, sailing not to mention the nearby cities & towns of the South West - Bristol, Bath, Wells, Glastonbury, Street, Taunton, Weston-Super-Mare, & Yeovil.
